REPORT: South Shields 2-1 Chorley

Magpies downed in heart-breaking fashion at South Shields...
CHORLEY were desperately unlucky to come away with nothing in their 2-1 defeat away to South Shields.
An early penalty converted by Jack Hazlehurst was cancelled out by two late second half goals from Adam Campbell and Paul Blackett.
The Magpies won their penalty within the opening 45 seconds, when Elliot Taylor was brought down in the box by Dillan Morse, a minute later, Hazlehurst stepped up and fired the penalty home into the left corner.
After a prolonged spell of pressure, Mike Williamson’s side got themselves back on terms in the 76th minute, a cross from Sonny Finch was cleared to the edge of the box and Campbell ran onto it and fired a good strike on the volley, flush into the bottom corner.
Then Shields’ winner came ten minutes later, after a flurry of shots inside the penalty area, a great save by Li-Bau Stowell saw the ball fall to the feet of Blackett who cannoned his effort into the roof of the net, another stellar finish.
Andy Preece’s side had other opportunities of their own, though, and the best occurred in the 9th minute, when a quick free kick by Hazlehurst released Taylor in behind in the penalty area, but the striker fired his effort wide.
Chorley’s attention will now turn to Tuesday evening’s game against Marine.
Chorley: Stowell, Henley (Ellis 90’), Hunt, Smith, Bird, Fielding, Calveley, Rowe (Whitehouse 83’), Clarke (Popoola 90’), Hazlehurst (Bala 65’), Taylor (Salmon 75’).
