REPORT: Chorley 1-2 Chester

Chester secure the spoils on the opening day...
CHORLEY were beaten 1-2 in their season opener against Chester.
A thunderbolt from Elliot Taylor wasn’t enough for the Magpies as goals from Ma’kel Campbell and Billy Waters saw the visitors take all three points at Victory Park.
Phil Parkinson’s side opened the scoring in the 26th minute, as Campbell received the ball on the edge of the box and fired a shot towards goal, and it nestled into the roof of the net.
Chorley got back on level terms in spectacular fashion through Taylor, he controlled the ball out wide and unleashed an effort on the half volley with the outside of his boot and found the far top corner, an early contender for goal of the season for sure.
Both sides looked to secure all three points as the game raced towards its climax, but, it was to be the visitors who reclaimed the lead late on in the 87th minute, a long ball by Jake Griffin found Dan Ward’s run through the Chorley backline and he played a square ball across goal which was turned in by Waters.
Elsewhere for Andy Preece’s side they were left to rue a missed penalty in the fifth minute, Anjola Popoola stepped up but unfortunately placed his effort wide.
However, The Seals had plenty of other opportunities themselves, the best of which fell to Tom Peers, who was slipped in through one-on-one in the 41st minute and skied his effort.
As for Chorley they will now turn their attention to next Saturday’s fixture away to South Shields.
Chorley: Stowell, Henley (Bala 90'), Hunt, Smith, Blakeman (Ellis 90'), Calveley, Clarke, Rowe (Fielding 90'), Hazlehurst (Whitehouse 74'), Popoola (Cummins 67'), Taylor.
